Smart-Tamp™ Update - Review and Production Status

It has been an interesting last few months. We've rolled in all the upgrades listed in the last post plus more. Getting production up and running has been challenging but rewarding and we're always excited to hear customers' feedback. We are satisfying orders now and will be increasing our inventory in the coming months. We sneak design improvements into every production run which means the Smart-Tamp™ is continually improving.

We had originally planned on attending SCAA 2014 in Seattle this year but decided to keep our nose to the production grindstone. We're sad to miss it, especially considering all the fun and awesome people we met last year in Boston. For all of you attending this year, have a blast!

Smart-Tamp™ Features

It's been 5 months since SCAA 2013 and there has been a lot of progress on the Smart-Tamp™. At the show we introduced the prototypes and received all kinds of useful feedback about the looks, feel and function. We went back to the drawing board and here's a look at the upgraded features we've rolled into the production models.

The Screen

Screen visibility was enhanced by making the screen larger and reducing the number of tick marks. The numbers and tick marks are now larger and color coded in segments--yellow, orange then red--to make reading the display more intuitive. 

Pounds and Kilograms

We now offer pound and kilogram versions of the Smart-Tamp™.

Handle Colors

We've added two brilliant colors in addition to the textured brown: shiny blue and highlighter yellow. 

Batteries

The Smart-Tamp™ now has 2 batteries for increased life.

Base Attachment

The bases screw on instead of snap on for a more robust attachment.

Deliveries of the Smart-Tamp™ begin early this fall.

Versa-Tamp™ Line Bows Out

SCAA 2013 was a huge success for us in so many ways. Being a small start-up, it couldn't have been a better intro for MG Coffee Tools into the specialty coffee community: amazing feedback on our designs was received, relationships were forged, and some more innovative product ideas that had been mere napkin sketches began to take on a more tangible form.

We are a flexible and agile new company and we listen closely to what our customers are telling us, directly or indirectly. In that vein, we have decided to discontinue the Versa-Tamp™ line. We had noble intentions for the Versa-Tamp™: comfort, versatility, simplicity, looks, affordability. But alas, our mission being to provide the world with better coffee tools packed with relevant functionality, we have made the decision to focus 100% of our efforts on making the Smart-Tamp™ all of those things too.

Did you like the color selection of the Versa-Tamp™? Well, it's now available for the Smart-Tamps™. Did you like the way the Versa-Tamp™ felt in the hand? You're in luck because the Smart-Tamp™ handle geometry is almost equivalent. If you've already ordered a Versa-Tamp™, you will be receiving a Smart-Tamp™ in the same color no questions asked.

MG Coffee Tools at SCAA event 2013

MG Coffee tools is introducing the Smart-Tamp coffee tamper at the SCAA event in Boston on 4/11/2013 at booth 1080. It is the first tamper with an integrated digital tamping force read out and an easily interchangeable tamping base that comes in various sizes and forms.
